If taken care of properly, you can expect luxury vinyl plank or tile to last 25 to 30 years. All vinyl flooring is tough, but this is layered, automatically making it thicker and more solid.

It’s about the wear layer!

The luxury vinyl (LVF) wear layer is a thick, clear, melamine coating that sits just above the design layer. It keeps the floor from getting scratched, scuffed, and dented.

At the very top is more protection. The clear urethane finish adds extra shine and strength.

About the waterproofing

All forms of LVF are entirely waterproof. This is so, whether it's a vinyl plank, also called LVP flooring, or luxury vinyl tile.

The floor handles small spills and big floods. That has a lot to do with durability because when it soaks, stains, peels, and ripples, it'll probably be time to replace it.

Low maintenance doesn't translate to "no maintenance."

All these floors need is regular sweeping and periodic mopping.

You want to sweep several times a week or daily, if possible. Dirt and sand are sharp and can scratch.

Mop with a manufacturer-approved cleaner and avoid waxy, shine-promoting cleaners. They can damage the finish and dull the floor.

Uncomplicated installation

Both LVT and LVP can be glued or installed as a floating floor. The pieces click, mat, and hover over the subfloor with the latter.
