Why is luxury vinyl so popular?

Why is luxury vinyl so popular?

At General Floor, we think that is a great question to answer. If you’ve spent any time at all floor shopping, you’ve probably heard that luxury vinyl is the best floor for any home. But why? Let’s answer that question below.

Luxury vinyl has a reputation

Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) and luxury vinyl tile (LVT) have many characteristics that give them a particular reputation for being a high-quality floor. The first characteristic that comes to mind is the durability of LVF. LVP and LVT are both comprised of layers. The backing layer is waterproof and sealed to prevent mold and mildew from growing. The core layer is made of PVC vinyl. PVC is a standard construction material that is used everywhere in buildings for its reliability. Then comes the imaging layer. This is where you have the desired image, be it wood, stone, tile, granite, or slate. The imaging layer is three-dimensional, so it has width and depth to it. So if you scored the flooring, you wouldn’t be able to tell from the depth of the imaging layer.

Another popular characteristic is the waterproof nature of luxury vinyl. LVF comes as a completely waterproof product. So it provides protection for your floor in basements, laundry rooms, kitchens, bathrooms, and more. It can withstand a small flood of water, and the material will not warp or ripple after a long time underwater.

The upper layer, the wear layer, of the luxury vinyl also features durability. It is a melamine cover that resists scuffs, scratches, and scrapes. It is also stain-resistant. You can get this layer in different thicknesses, so make sure to ask about it. The thicker the wear layer, the longer the life of the floor.
